Human hair wigs are expensive, but worth it. Because they are made of 100% human hair, they are more elastic than synthetic wigs in straightening, curling and dyeing. Like our natural hair, human hair wigs need to be washed regularly. However, because they are fragile, you need to be extra careful. Proper care of your wig is essential. This will determine how long it will last and continue to maintain its luster.
It is recommended to wash the human hair wig every 7-14 days. Each time a wig is washed, its life is shortened. For this reason, wigs should not be washed too much. Using as few styling products as possible on your wig will allow you to wash it less and extend its life. Wearing a wig cap inside will also extend the life of your wig. Wig caps help absorb scalp oil and keep it away from the base of the cap.
Washing the wig
To start shampooing, gently separate the wig with a wig brush or wide-toothed comb. Fill your sink with cold water and shampoo measurements are written on the back of the shampoo bottle. Turn the wig inside out and put it in water for no more than a few minutes. Don’t twist the wig or it will ruin your hairstyle. Some people like to let their wigs soak for a while, but it is usually clean after the technique mentioned above. Rinse the wig gently with cold water and repeat the process. If you have a conditioner, you can use it at this time. Apply a small amount of human hair wig conditioner to the palm of your hand and apply evenly to your hair. Avoid using conditioner at the bottom of your wig as it will loosen the knot in your cap and cause your hair to fall out. Let the conditioner leave in your hair for 3-5 minutes. Wash off the conditioner unless it says something else on the bottle as some conditioners are wash free.
Drying the wig
After washing the wig for the last time, gently squeeze out most of the moisture and place it on a large dry towel. Roll the wig up in a towel and press gently against the towel. This will remove most of the moisture. Then you can hang it to dry naturally.
Human hair wig care tips:
- When you need to comb a wig, you can use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Please be gentle. Do not comb curly hair.
- While you’re sitting at home, take it off and put it on a wig stand. The stand will help keep its shape and taking it off your head takes away from your own tugging and pulling hairs out.
- After saturating your wig in water, squeeze it dry. Don’t wring it or the base of your wig could become mis-shaped and dry funny.
- When washing your hair, please use normal conditioner. Shampoo is too harsh and can lead to hair falling out.
